About Dr. Veronica Bloomfield
Dr. Veronica Bloomfield is a credentialed teacher and literacy expert in Southern California with over 20 years of experience across all levels of public education – from the classroom to district administration. She considers herself an “educator-next-door” who values connection, collaboration, and reciprocity. She holds a Ph.D. in Education from Chapman University, specializing in Cultural and Curricular Studies.
Dr. Bloomfield’s presentation style is approachable, inspirational, and engaging. She takes evidence-based and complex academic concepts and make them accessible to the general public. Throughout her career, she has provided meaningful professional development to classroom teachers, afterschool staff, and families across the state of California. With a focus on culturally sustaining and relevant content, she equips participants to nurture, deepen, and expand students’ literacy development and meet the needs of multilingual learners across grade spans.
As a student and-family centered educator and also a parent herself, she values education as conversation that leads to enriching dialogue. Her passion for creating a culture of literacy at home began by reading with her father, a professor of philosophy, and watching him engage his students in cross-cultural conversations.
Her multi-media presentations include demonstration lessons, hands-on activities, and time for discussion. She enjoys customizing her curriculum to specifically meet the needs of different participants groups.
Her current offerings include Supporting Reading at Home, Supporting Reading After School, Meaningful Conversations, and the Parent Academy. These family and community engagement series build the capacity of adults to provide literacy support to children outside of school hours.
Dr. Bloomfield’s love for reading and the power of books have inspired other literacy-based projects such as This Book Matters, an online interview series about the impact of books in individual life stories. Dr. Bloomfield is available for speaking engagements, workshops and keynotes. Contact Veronica to learn how she can best support your next family and community engagement series.
